This sculpture is a reinterpretation of more than 200,000 signatures collected from school students across Western Australia in 1999 as part of the millennium celebrations. These signatures formerly at the base of the Bell Tower, have been etched into the copper plated sculpture at Barrack Square.

Artists Matthew Ngui and Simon Gauntlett’s Signature Ring is suggestive of a ring or a set of headphones and comprises an interactive element using fibre optics embedded into the concrete faces of the sculpture. Standing in front of one panel at night, look over your shoulder and see your shadow cast onto the opposite panel via 30,000 optic cables.
